It's Off to Chicago to see the Show

It is my favorite time of the year. Grades are in and now nobody expects to see my face officially until August 15 when the fall semester starts! Better still, I get to now pack my bags and head to the restaurant show in Chicago tomorrow to set up the Purdue booth.

As usual, the time will pass quickly, starting with being the department representative at the day-long Salute to Excellence program that ends with dinner at the Hilton and Towers, which is always a long but richly rewarding day.

I also look forward to my annual Sunday walk of the show with a student who was one of my first students when first given the opportunity to teach Food Principles at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The alum is now a regional yield manager for Starwood and I get to be her pupil for awhile to learn the inner workings of yield management. I am also giving a presentation at the show in Tuesday at noon on applying sustainability principles to conserving human resources.

During my time at the show I plan to post highlights of the day's happenings for those who are not able to attend this year. Expect to get some information on the Green expo at the show as I learn about green products coming online to help make our industry more sustainable.

So, take care. If in Chicago drop by the Purdue booth on Sunday or Monday and chat about FELC or anything else on your mind as it relates to teaching and learning. Perhaps I might even see you at my presentation on Tuesday. See you at the show!
