FELC Teacher Certification Takes Shape

Due to the hard work of Chef Michael Carmel, the teaching certificate program soon to be offered by FELC is taking shape. We are hoping to roll it out the self-study certification program before the end of the summer.

The description of the certification program to date is as follows:
This course is designed to develop a new teacher’s fundamental skills in becoming a great teacher. Students will learn about the foundations of adult education, the learning process, and appropriate teaching methodology and good teaching principles. Through practical assignments, students will be able to hone their teaching skills and understanding of course development, and student learning which will include appropriate student assessment, motivation, and teaching strategies based on lecture/lab – large or small class size environments. Final evaluation will be conducted based on practical teaching presentation that assesses a culmination of student’s teaching skills.

As it now stands the length of the course will be 12 weeks and require about 4 hours of work each week to work through the modules that are part of the program, yieding 48 contact hours. Once those desiring certification work through the various modules (that are in the final stage of development) there will be a final exam covering the materials covered in the modules.

The details of the certification program are still being finalized by Chef Michael Carmel and Dr. Mick La Lopa but details will soon be announced by FELC so stay tuned.
