Conference Takeaways

Dear members and others, the Conference goes well and will share takeaways later in the week. I will be sharing some of the most startling information that was delivered by a demographer on the future profile of our country. Hint; if not preparing to recruit and select Latino students your program is going to not fare well in the years ahead.

In short, hable espanol? If not, there had better be someone on your staff that is fluent because those are the students of your future according to recent demographic data from U.S. Census Bureau -- and I am not talking about border states. Oh, another demographic tidbit. The growth of the Latino population in states like Arizona is not coming from over the border. The FACT is that the birth-to-death of Latino's is 9:1 while it is 1:1 for Anglo's. In other words, for every death in the Latino population of Arizona there are 9 births while there are 1.23 births for every 1 death of Anglo's. So, put up all the fences you want -- population growth is not coming from within the borders of the United States. Don't give in to the pscycho babble of talk radio miscreants!
Think about that for a moment!
